From the moment Dr. Kate Morrison, N.D., Co-founder and Chief Medical Officer of Kabrita North America prepared her first batch of goat milk infant formula for her son James, she realized that she was on to somethingâÃÂ??¦
Accepting the fact that I couldnâÃÂ??ÃÂ??t breastfeed had been an agonizing process, and at first I felt ashamed that I had to turn to formula at all. Then James turned out to be sensitive to his cow milk based formula, and he developed severe congestion that kept him all up at night. As a practicing naturopath, I had prescribed goat milk to patients with cow milk sensitivity before, and knew it was remarkably similar in composition to breast milk. So I created a goat milk infant formula in our kitchen. James' congestion cleared within days âÃÂ??ÃÂ?? and finally seeing my son healthy and thriving helped me let go of the guilt I felt for my âÃÂ??ÃÂ??failureâÃÂ??ÃÂ?? to breastfeed, and truly enjoy my son. I resolved to bring other parents a similar solution should they encounter similar challenges âÃÂ??ÃÂ?? not just by creating a great product, but by providing support and guidance to help parents trust in their ability to make healthy choices for the children they know best.
For Carolyn Ansley, co-founder and CEO, meeting Kate provided an opportunity to bring her vision to life
As the mother of a premature child who had needed formula supplementation to survive, and an experienced marketer in infant nutrition, I believed there was new way to connect with parents about the food they were feeding their children. Unlike some mothers, I didn't feel guilty or ashamed of formula use. In fact I was grateful for formula and the opportunity to also breastfeed. I believed parents would benefit, as I had, from more informed choice. So, over many conversations (and organic wine and kale salads) Kate and I fostered a vision we call âÃÂ??ÃÂ??bridge buildingâÃÂ??ÃÂ?? âÃÂ??ÃÂ?? the marriage between the ideal of all natural and the realities of life.
At the time, Goat milk formula didnâÃÂ??ÃÂ??t exist in North America, and we knew we had to think a lot bigger than KateâÃÂ??ÃÂ??s kitchen! So to ensure we could offer the best quality products, we partnered with Hyproca Nutrition B.V., a Dutch company with over 70 years of infant nutrition expertise, to launch Kabrita in North America.
Kabrita is about more than feeding your little one. It's about nourishing your intuition as a parent. Kabrita is dedicated to developing unique and wonderful products while fostering learning and dialogue to help parents make nutritional choices for their children, with confidence and joy.
Transparency, openness and a desire to bridge the gap between the ideal of all-natural and the realities of life is at the heart of Kabrita North America.
We start with ourselves, by creating a working environment that is conducive both to the hard work and passion needed to deliver the best products and information to our customers, and the reality of what it takes to be happy, healthy parents. We employ flexible working hours and support each other to make sure we get things done. We are committed to continuous learning and empower each other to be the best we can be. We also take time to enjoy natural, nourishing foods together when weâÃÂ??ÃÂ??re in the office. We work hard, but we also make sure we have time to keep fit and spend time with our families at home.
We are passionate about making the world a better place for our children by making good food âÃÂ??ÃÂ?? and by making choices that support the environment.
All our Kabrita products are sourced with ingredients that have not been genetically modified âÃÂ??ÃÂ?? from our goat milk ingredients, to the pureed fruits in our yogurt and the vitamins and minerals in all of our products. Both our farms in The Netherlands and Missouri are seeking âÃÂ??ÃÂ??Non-GMO ProjectâÃÂ??ÃÂ?? verification. Our farms make animal welfare a big priority and our goats are treated with care and dignity.
When it comes to packaging, we try to minimize waste. Our formula cans are 100% recyclable and are made from 50% recycled materials. Our yogurt pouches canâÃÂ??ÃÂ??t be recycled just yet, but they still have a smaller carbon footprint than traditional jars because they are much so lighter to transport.
We also endeavor to reduce our carbon footprint by using ground and batch shipping as much as possible.
The Beginning
In 2012, co-founders Dr. Kate Morrison, N.D. and Carolyn Ansley, two North American entrepreneurs with a passion for childrenâÃÂ??ÃÂ??s health and empowering parents to make great nutrition choices for their kids, partnered with a market-leading dairy company in the Netherlands to bring the Kabrita brand to North America. Kabrita is a line of gentle non-GMO goat milk foods, specially designed to meet the nutritional needs of active toddlers. Our partnership with Hyproca Nutrition allows us to leverage their 70 years of infant nutrition expertise and bring our customers the best.
From the very beginning, we wanted Kabrita to be about more than just feeding little ones. We wanted to create a company that would help parents nourish their intuition by fostering learning and dialogue that would help parents make nutritional choices for their children with confidence and joy.
