Jensen & Curtis Inc. (J&C) began in early 1989, during which time Paul Jensen and Lynn Curtis were working for Trapper Mine in the USA. Their innovative and profitable dig methods were attracting attention from other mine managers seeking operational improvements. This interest encouraged Paul and Lynn to offer their expertise to others.
Their first jobs were in the old mining areas of eastern United States. They were the hardest hit with some of the legislation on greenhouse gasses and were eager to find more competitive ways to stay in the mining business. The success of those situations started J&C on the way to becoming known around the world. J&C have been operationally involved with over 200 of the world’s 400 plus draglines.
The opportunity to work in Australia came in 1996, when J&C were contracted to start up the new P&H 9020 at Bulga Coal in the Hunter Valley, NSW. Their planned ‘short stay down under’ has lasted ever since, as they gradually introduced to Australian mining companies improved operational methods and the use of support machinery to increase production and minimize costs.
The primary focus for J&C has always been to train and provide technical advice to dragline crews, supervisors, engineers, maintenance staff and managers in the most productive operational methods and practices.
J&C also provide operational supervision, maintenance advice to reduce down time and to advise on optimum bucket, rigging and setup options suitable to a particular operation.
In recent times, a further development to J&C services has enabled mines to maintain a consistent level of operational improvement. The focus of the today’s service is a balance of technical advice and support services covering dragline performance improvement, process management and people development.
J&C employs technical staff and specialist contractors. As a group, the team’s expertise covers all our clients’ requirements in both the US and Australia. Their high level of technical expertise is combined with years of experience in dragline optimisation.
Having J&C on your site represents a serious commitment by them to the success of the mine, to achieve significant sustainable operational improvement and increased coal uncovery rates, resulting in improved financial returns.
The History of Jensen & Curtis
A Proven Track Record of Performance
J&C has a proven track record of dragline performance improvement in all mines in which they operate in the USA, Australia and other countries around the world.
Performance Measures
J&C believe that the primary rate to measure the performance of the dragline process is Coal Uncovery Rate - or the speed at which the dragline moves across the ground to uncover coal.
The coal uncovery rate shows the true increase in operational productivity. It represents the effective utilization of both man and machinery.
