Assistive technology designed for people with visual impairments



There are a variety of assistive technologies developed to help various types of disabilities. Assistive technologies developed specifically for the blind and visually impaired, for example, will allow the user to read information from the screen by either enlarging the text and graphics, or speech output of those text and graphics, or both. They can also display screen text and other elements in refreshable Braille or emboss a document into Braille. Other technologies will scan a printed document, recognize the text and read it back to the user with speech output.

Note taking devices will allow the user to be mobile because they are small, lightweight, and can quickly be powered on and set to open a document when awakened from hibernation.
