Established in 1964 as the David A. Mowat Company, Mowat Construction has an upstanding reputation for delivering quality projects on time and within budget. Construction was a natural choice for Dave Mowat, who is from a family of contractors and developers. His grandfather was a carpenter originally from the Orkney Islands in Northern Scotland who formed A. F. Mowat Construction. He participated in the construction of many Seattle landmarks including the original Pike Place Market. Dave’s father and uncle formed Mowat Brothers Construction and focused on public projects such as military barracks at Fort Lewis and post office buildings.
Don and Emmy Lou Mowat
Initially, David A. Mowat Company and its workforce of union personnel focused on municipal public works and building projects including street improvements, high schools and elementary schools and institutional projects such as the Seattle National Guard Armory in Seattle, WA and the Battelle Marine Research Laboratory in Sequim, WA. As their pool of talented people increased, Mowat’s focus shifted to heavy/highway and bridge construction. Construction of bridges completing the I-90/I-5 connection, major bridge overlays, interstate widening and HOV lane development projects were completed throughout Washington and Oregon.
Continuing the family association, Dave Mowat and son Mark formed Mowat Construction Company in 1994, maintaining a focus on the development and appreciation of quality employees. Since then, the arena of successful projects has grown to include energy and hydro upgrades, seismic retrofitting, and mass transit
