In the early 1969's, a small business known as Orientex(R), began selling Filipino handicrafts at the San Jose Flea Market in California. Within a few short years, Orientex had a brick and mortar market in Mountain View importing various frozen and dry goods alongside the traditional handicrafts. By this time, the business had a few employees, mostly in the family. Primo Quesada, the 6th son of 11 children, was a delivery driver during this period. After a few years, Primo took over the business and decided to change the company. With the growing Asian market in California and the United States, it was clear to the family that there was an increasing demand for high quality, authentic, ethnic foods. From there, the idea was to take the exotic fruit flavors of the Philippines and Asia and turn them into a premium ice cream. Thus, Magnolia Ice Cream(R) was reborn in America.
Over the years, Primo positioned the Company for sustained growth and success by implementing a gradual transition from importer to manufacturer of Filipino and Asian meats, eggrolls, and desserts. Primo decided early on that Ramar Foods would be different from the rest. The secret is in the recipe. The best recipes aren't made; they're discovered. Many of the recipes we use are authentic right down to the smallest detail. With some of the finest flavors in the world to offer, the only thing left to do was to make it all happen. And so they did. 1989 marked the grand opening of the company's new USDA meat manufacturing plant followed by a larger ice cream plant in Pittsburg, California.
