Since 1975, the Stokes County Arts Council has successfully fulfilled the mission of supporting and promoting visual and performing arts. Known as "the guerilla arts council of NC", the organization annually impacts over 25,000 with arts education programs in Stokes County Schools, art programs for senior citizens and special needs children and adults, monthly gallery exhibits, Kids theatre and visual arts camps, military band concerts, visual and performing arts classes, and special programs such as the Winter Dessert Theatre Series, Piedmont A Capella Showcase, Valentine Arts Ball, Taste of Stokes, Stokes Stomp Festival on the Dan, Reach the Peaks Challenge, Christmas in Historic Danbury, and Stokes Soup in a Bowl. Organizational goals include; support local artists through the exhibition and promotion of their work, facilitate high quality arts education programs in Stokes Schools, provide life-long cultural learning for all citizens, form meaningful community partnerships, impact economy through arts based tourism, better the quality of life of Stokes County residents through the cultural arts.
