The Big Green Egg Company was launched in 1974 in a small shopping mall in Atlanta, Georgia. Ed Fisher had an idea for a barbecue grill that he thought was better than anything on the market. He took an ancient Oriental ceramic cooking concept, improved on it, gave it a catchy name and started selling it himself out of a single store.



Contrary to the well known adage, "putting all his eggs in one basket" proved a successful strategy for Fisher, founder and still chairman of the company that today has become the world's largest manufacturer and international distributor of kamado-style cookers. The Big Green Egg is at the forefront of what has become one of the fastest growing segments of the U.S. barbecue industry and the EGG® is now available in more than 20 countries. Ed Fisher's single storefront has likewise grown to thousands of dealers.
